Behold and Weep

Gigantism in plants can result from the high level of carbon dioxide now in the atmosphere. CO2 stands at over 400 ppb now, a level unprecedented on Earth in thousands of years. That is not a good thing. The heat-trapping blanket of CO2 and other greenhouse gases results in potentially disastrous effects. While the CO2 "fertilization effect" benefits some plants, it will likely be outweighed by other effects of climate change, such as heat waves and drought in some places, flooding in others, and increases in crop pests.
