Oregon PSR Contributes to "Landmark" Victory

Posted by Jacqueline Ackerman on March 9, 2016

Oregon PSR worked hard to help win passage of the state's Clean Electricity and Coal Transition Bill (SB 1547-B). The victory is described as a "landmark moment," and shows the U.S. is still moving towards renewable energy despite the Supreme Court's recent stay of the Clean Power Plan.

This new legislation makes Oregon the first state in the nation to plan to eliminate coal-fired power by 2035. The law also requires its two largest utilities to increase their shares of clean energy, in solar and wind, to 50% by 2040.

This new law is workable and affordable. Oregon is now a leader in climate change. We hope it will inspire other states to follow suit.
