Dr. Wes Stafford and Austin PSR Director and Co-President Marian Morris and Trish O'Day, respectively, waiting at the Capitol to testify at the TCEQ sunset hearing.
January 2011 UpdatePeople travelled from all over the state to speak at the December 15 sunset review hearing for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) at the Texas State Capitol. Actually getting to speak was a challenge – this was a marathon, and public comment for TCEQ did not begin until about 8:00 pm that evening. Many who had come had to leave to get back to family and work, although some did endure and stayed until they were heard. Austin PSR submitted comments as well as our fantastic petition with 100 signatures of doctors, nurses and health professionals. Comments we sent in and the final letter can be seen through the links below, if you’re interested in the details. Many thanks to everyone who participated in this effort!
Letter With Signatures to Sunset Review
November 2010
All Day
The Texas Sunset Advisory Commission is holding its hearing to consider how TCEQ needs to change on Wednesday, December 15, starting at 9 AM, at the Texas State Capitol. Dr. Lisa Doggett and Ms. Trish O'Day, Austin PSR Co-Presidents, will be attending the hearing along with other health care professionals from other parts of Texas to testify to how TCEQ impacts human health and how it could be changed to strengthen its protection of Texas residents by protecting the Texas environment. Readers are encouraged to attend and to testify (you have to come and sign up). Again, more information on testifying can be had at http://www.acttexas.org and at the Sunset Advisory Commission website, http://www.sunset.state.tx.us/process.htm.
