Beyond Coal: Clean Energy Solutions for Tampa Bay

November 13, 2013
Tampa, Florida

Time: 7:00 pm
Hilton Garden Inn, 1700 E. Ninth Ave, Ybor City (Tampa)
Julia Hathaway, Sierra Club, and Dr. Lynn Ringenberg, president of Physicians for Social Responsibility/Florida

Duke Energy's Crystal River power plant is the nation's 12th dirtiest. The two coal burning units spew pollution into the entire Tampa Bay region. Come and meet Julia Hathaway, organizer of the new Sunshine State Clean Energy Coalition which kicks off Nov. 13 with a rally at the St. Petersburg office of Duke Energy.

The Sunshine State Clean Energy Coalition is an alliance of business, environmental, health, labor and faith-based groups dedicated to moving Florida away from coal-fired power plants and toward renewables like solar and energy efficiency.

Join the kickoff or come to the meeting to learn about the coalition and how you can take action to fight dirty coal! Julia will be joined by Dr. Lynn Ringenberg who will address the dangers and health risks of hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking" which is threatening the Floridan Aquifer.

Sponsored by Sierra Club Tampa Bay Group. Free and open to the public. For more information, contact Marcia Biggs at

  • Tell President Obama: Ban Oil Trains

Tell President Obama and the US DOT to stop oil trains carrying diluted tar sands and fracked shale oil from the Bakken formation—both are more toxic, more explosive, and more carbon-intensive than conventional crude.

  • Tell the Oil and Gas Industry: Lower your emissions!

Thank the EPA for releasing standard on new and modified oil and gas operations -- and ask them to move swiftly to set limits on existing methane sources. Our climate and our health are at stake.
