Duke Energy's Crystal River power plant is the nation's 12th dirtiest. The two coal burning units spew pollution into the entire Tampa Bay region. Come and meet Julia Hathaway, organizer of the new Sunshine State Clean Energy Coalition which kicks off Nov. 13 with a rally at the St. Petersburg office of Duke Energy.
The Sunshine State Clean Energy Coalition is an alliance of business, environmental, health, labor and faith-based groups dedicated to moving Florida away from coal-fired power plants and toward renewables like solar and energy efficiency.
Join the kickoff or come to the meeting to learn about the coalition and how you can take action to fight dirty coal! Julia will be joined by Dr. Lynn Ringenberg who will address the dangers and health risks of hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking" which is threatening the Floridan Aquifer.
Sponsored by Sierra Club Tampa Bay Group. Free and open to the public. For more information, contact Marcia Biggs at email@example.com
Urge the Army Corps to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement to assess the potential human health and environmental consequences of shipping 360,000 barrels of oil each day down the Columbia River.
Tell the Army Corps to take a hard look at the impacts of shipping explosive, dirty oil across the West by train and then through the largest oil-by-rail terminal proposed in the United States.
