A recent stealth move on the part of Iowa’s MidAmerican Energy Co. has moved the issue of clean energy to the front burner. With little to no attention by the rest of the state, this powerful energy company managed to move a bill requiring Iowa’s rate payers to provide the funds to build an untried, unevaluated, and unreviewed new nuclear power plant. This plant is expected to add significant increases to Iowan’s energy bills with no guarantees the plant will ever be built and no refunds if not.
