Karla Hansen, who has just returned from 6 weeks of "people to people" diplomacy in Iran, will be in Iowa City on Sunday June 7th. She will be sharing her experiences and photos with us at 1:00 PM on Sun. in Room 2390-Exec, the University Capital Center (UCC) Executive Board Room, 2nd floor just above the Cookies-n-More stand in the Old Capital Mall corner of Washington and Clinton.
Ms. Hansen who was accompanied on her recent trip by her Iranian-born husband was privileged to access many sites and people not readily available to most visitors. She traveled with her camcorder and camera recording the universal human stories of Iran. She now has a portrait of the land and people quite different than the narrative depicted by mainstream U.S. media. While the focus is Iran, we'll also discuss the important role of people to people diplomacy in our efforts to create a more secure and peaceful world, and how students, faculty, and the general public can learn more about efforts to improve relations between the U.S. and Iran.
Parking available in the Clinton and Burlington Street Ramp at the opposite end of the mall and walk on over. For more information, write or call, Maureen McCue, mickiq@earthlink.net, 319-828-4789.
We look forward to seeing many of you soon. And, don't be afraid to invite neighbors, friends and family--event open to the public. Light refreshments will be served!
As rhetoric from Congress and key leaders continues to build the case for a war with Iran, we must push back to ensure that diplomacy has a chance to work.
Write your Representative now to let them know that, as a constituent, you want them to urge diplomatic engagement with Iran.
