The future of the disarmament agenda is on the line now as New START ratification moves forward in the US Senate.
For the first time in over 30 years we have the chance to reform our country’s chemical safety laws, and by doing so reduce the exposure to commonly used chemicals that have been linked to health problems such as Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, diabetes, asthma and obesity.
Your voice as a health care provider is important right now. While the Safe Chemicals Act of 2010 is an improvement on the ineffective Toxic Substances Control Act, your action is urgently needed to make sure the new law protects the public from chemicals found in everyday products, many of which have never been tested for safety. Drafts of the proposed law are currently circulating through the Senate and House but they need strengthening now to protect the public from harmful chemicals.
Maine citizens are exposed to hazardous chemicals in products we all use every day, including food containers, personal care products, furniture and household cleaners. Chemicals are everywhere in Maine – in our homes, schools and businesses, and in our water and air.
Tell Maine’s U.S. Senators and Representatives that they have an opportunity to protect the health of all Americans by supporting a strengthened bill that will keep harmful chemicals of the market.
Take Action »Current laws are not protecting us from toxic chemical exposures. Tell your congressperson to put health first by ensuring that chemicals are tested for safety before they are allowed on the market.
