He will also discuss coal’s impact on air, water, climate change, as well as our economy. Finally, Dr. Lockwood will present examples of some of the myths that supporters of coal use and how we can refute these false claims.

More about Dr. Alan Lockwood - He has been an active member of Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR) for three decades and was President of PSR National in 1994, is currently a member of the Board and Co-Chair of the Environment and Health Committee. The lead author of PSR’s report “Coal’s Assault on Human Health,” Dr. Lockwood is also the author of a new book on coal, The Silent Epidemic: Coal and the Hidden Threat to Health, published by MIT Press (available September 2012). Dr. Lockwood is an expert on environmental factors and neurological disease with special reference to pesticides and Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders, medical ethics with focus on human testing of pesticides, and Code Black, burning coal and its effects on health.
