Good News! Tell Governor Kulongoski Thank you!

On Friday, July 31, Governor Kulongoski formally indicated his intent to veto House Bill 2940. http://www.oregonlive.com/news/index.ssf/2009/07/kulongoski_signals_intent_to_v.html

Oregon PSR's position on HB 2940 is that it reduces our state's commitment to clean renewable energy by redefining what is "renewable" under the Renewable Energy Standard passed in 2007. That Standard requires Oregon to have 25% new renewable energy by 2025. "New" is defined as coming online in 1995 or later. House Bill 2940 would reduce our commitment to develop new renewable energy production by allowing old pre-1995 biomass and waste burning facilities (Marion County's Covanta "waste to energy" incinerator) to be counted as renewable facilities in meeting that goal. http://olcvblog.typepad.com/olcvblog/2009/06/oregon-house-votes-to-reduce-commitment-to-clean-energy.html

Oregon PSR sent an email to members and posted an alert on our website in early July encouraging you to contact Governor Kulongoski to request that he veto HB 2940. It worked! We were heard! Thank him by email or phone 503.378.4582.

Single Payer work to be done!

"The worst mistake that progressives could make in August would be to put their time and energy into getting members of Congress to agree to back a barely-acceptable compromise that could end up being unacceptable by the time the lobbyists and their political handmaidens finish with it."
