Hear From Young Oregonians on the Health Crisis of Gun Violence

April 28, 2017 - April 28, 2017
Portland, Oregon

Keynote Speaker Alisha Moreland-Capuia, MD

We hope that you will join us in celebrating the Oregon high school student winners of our 2017 Greenfield Peace Writing Scholarship.

Friday, April 28th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM

Portland’s First Unitarian Church Eliot Center (1211 SW Main Street)

Now in its ninth consecutive year, the scholarship is an opportunity to hear from young Oregonians on some of the most pressing issues of our time.

This year, we asked students to respond to the following question:

“How would you solve the public health crisis of gun violence?”

We received more than 150 entries, including essays, poems and narrative works, from communities throughout the state. We greatly appreciate all of the students who took the time to share their ideas with us.

We are pleased to announce the winners of this year's Greenfield Peace Writing Scholarship:

1st Place - Jessyka Evans, Tualatin High School, Tualatin

We are thrilled to announce that Alisha Moreland-Capuia, MD will be the keynote speaker for our April 28th awards ceremony. Born and raised in Northeast Portland, Dr. Moreland-Capuia is the co-founder of The Capuia Foundation, Executive Director of the OHSU Avel Gordly Center for Healing, and an Assistant Professor of Public Psychiatry at OHSU. She also serves on the Portland Development Commission and the OHSU/PSU Gun Violence as a Public Health Issue Advisory Committee.

We look forward to hearing from Dr. Moreland-Capuia and sharing the thoughts of Oregon’s youth on the issue of gun violence as a public health crisis with you at our 2017 Greenfield Peace Writing Scholarship awards ceremony. See you on April 28th!
