Internship Opportunity

Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility is a non-profit educational organization committed to the elimination of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction, the achievement of a healthy and sustainable environment, and the reduction of violence and its causes.

Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility is seeking an intern to play an integral role in program development. We maintain an ongoing list of program needs, but will be flexible in accommodating the professional goals of each intern. This is a valuable opportunity to learn about the workings of a growing non-profit organization, to carry out self-guided research, and to implement projects that make a real difference in the local and global community.

Responsibilities:

  • Peace and Security issues- Research updated education on global warming and assist with Peace Action planning regarding the Iraq war.
  • Nuclear Weapons- Organize Oregon PSR’s annual Hiroshima Day memorial event. Work with staff on Hanford Nuclear Reservation clean up issues.
  • Environmental Health- Work with staff on the In Harm’s Way health professional education program. Work may include community outreach, program scheduling, event planning, and research and writing for web, presentation, and print materials.

Qualifications:

  • Highly motivated and able to work independently
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Front Page and internet research preferred

Duration: 3 months to a year
Hours: Desired commitment of 3-10 hours per week; flexible hours.
