The future of the disarmament agenda is on the line now as New START ratification moves forward in the US Senate.
By now you likely know that WPSR is part of a coalition of groups which is working to close Washington State’s single coal plant, located in Centralia. As part of our contribution to this effort, we are working hard to educate our members and colleagues about the harmful effects of coal fired plants; indeed, not only are coal-fired power plants the leading global warming culprit in the U.S., but coal pollutants affect all major body organ systems and contribute to four of the five leading causes of mortality in the U.S.: heart disease, cancer, stroke, and chronic lower respiratory diseases. Click hereto read PSR’s report Coal’s Assault on Human Health which presents a more detailed synopsis of the harmful health effects of all coal plants.
OnThursday August 5th, from 5 – 7 pm, WPSR in collaboration with the Sierra Club and other coalition partners, invites you to join us for an informal reception to learn more about the Washington State campaign to close the Centralia Coal Plant. Come to our Happy Hour, meet great people, learn more about the terrific work we are doing, and find out how you can get involved in WPSR’s advocacy aimed at creating a more healthy, peaceful and sustainable world.
