Transitioning Washington State Off Coal: Our Health Can’t Wait!

March 22, 2010
Seattle, Washington

Featuring “Code Black: Coal’s Assault on Human Health” by Physicians for Social Responsibility
Monday, March 22, 7:00 PM, REI Flagship, 222 Yale Ave N, Seattle

A public forum hosted by Sierra Club Cascade Chapter, Environment Washington, and Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility

The TransAlta coal plant in Centralia, WA is the largest single source of air pollution and global warming emissions in Washington State.

This groundbreaking medical report takes a new look at the devastating impacts of coal on the human body. The report concludes that coal contributes to four of the top five causes of mortality in the U.S. and is responsible for increasing the incidence of major diseases already affecting large portions of the U.S. population.  Findings presented by Steven Gilbert, DABT, Ph.D., President, WPSR

Here in Washington, we have the choice to move beyond dirty coal.
This forum will examine the findings of the report, lay out a vision to replace coal power with clean energy, improve public health, reduce 10% of Washington's climate pollution, and create tens of thousands of clean energy jobs for our state. Vision and action plan presented by Doug Howell, Senior Representative, Coal Free Northwest Campaign, Sierra Club

We need an energy infrastructure that doesn't leave our state in the Intensive Care Unit. Governor Gregoire can lead the way. Join us to find out how your voice can put our state on a path to a healthy future.
