“Bhopali” Film Screening - FREE
Monday, April 30, 7:00 to 9:00 PM in Room 1335 of the Health Sciences Learning Center on the UW-Madison Campus (750 Highland Ave.) Sponsored by UWSMPH Student PSR and the Indian Graduate Student Association this documentary film describes the Bhopal chemical accident in 1982 and the lives of those who live in the community. Making the Connection 2012: Environment and Health in Wisconsin
WEHN will offer their popular CME conference again in 2012, with a shorter program offered twice: On Friday afternoon, May 4, and again on Saturday morning, May 5.
This conference represents our key program outreach to health professionals and an opportunity to incorporate the goals of when with the larger medical community, the University of Wisconsin, and community-based environmental groups. We will follow the program each day with a reception (on Friday) and a luncheon (on Saturday) . The conference program includes:
· Katie Huffling, MS, RN, CMN, Environmental Health Education Center, University of Maryland School of Nursing, Baltimore, MD. “From Knowledge into Action: Incorporating Environmental Health into Practice”; Learn how to successfully incorporate environmental Health into your health care practice.
· David R. Webb, MD, Lanesboro, MN, “Radium in Your Water…Who Cares..or Should”; An overview of the health risks associate with internal exposure to ionizing radiation, with ingestion of raidum in drinking water as a specific and locally relevant case in point.
· Anne Eglash, MD, Department of Family Medicine, UW School of Medicine and Public Health, “Breast Milk and Environmental Toxins”; Issues surrounding breastfeeding and environmental toxins; What should a mother do?
· Lynn Markham, MS, UW-Extension Center for Land Use Education, UW-Stevens Point. “Subtle Biological Effects of Pesticides at Very Low Concentrations”; The developmental, neurological, immune and endocrine effexts of common pesticides. For the Friday presentation, she will be joined by Warren Porter, PhD, Professor of Zoology, PhD, UW-Madison on Friday.
· Nancy Langston, PhD, Professor of Forest & Wildlife Ecology and Environmental Studies, Gaylord Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, UW-Madison. “Endocrine Disrupters, Public Health, and the Legacies of History”; Explore the history of attempts to regulate endocrine disrupters, showing how endocrine disrupting chemicals have challenged traditional risk assessment protocols.
