Eric Schaeffer
Eric V. Schaeffer has served as director of the
non-profit Environmental Integrity Project (EIP) since he co-founded the
organization in March of 2002. Eric’s vision of combining policy analysis,
media outreach and litigation to advocate for more effective enforcement of
environmental laws still drives all of EIP’s work.
Previously, Eric served as director of EPA's Office of Civil
Enforcement from 1997 to 2002, where he received a Presidential Rank Award, as
well as the John Marshall award from the Justice Department for his leadership
in negotiating an industry-wide cleanup of petroleum refineries. Eric's career
at EPA began in 1990, and included an appointment as special assistant to the
Deputy Administrator. Prior to his service at EPA, Eric worked as an
environmental attorney for two and a half years at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius,
and spent six years on Capitol Hill working for various members of
Congress. Eric received his law degree from Georgetown University in
1987, and graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1976.
