Karl Gawell
Mr. Gawell is the Executive Director of the Geothermal Energy Association. He was previously the Director of Government Affairs for the American Wind Energy Association, and was Project Director for the Solar Energy Research Institute’s landmark study published in 1981 as A New Prosperity: Building A Sustainable Energy Future. His background includes senior positions in several national environmental organizations including the National Wildlife Federation and The Wilderness Society and senior legislative and policy positions in the U.S. Congress working for US Senator Paul Wellstone, US Representative David Skaggs, US Representative Richard Ottinger, and the House Appropriations Committee. Mr. Gawell also currently serves as a member of the Steering Committee for the California Geothermal Energy Collaborative, a member of the Steering Committee of the International Partnership for Geothermal Technology, a member of the Steering Committee for Renewable Energy World Conference and Expo, an advisor to the Environmental and Energy Study Institute, and a member of the California Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan Stakeholder Group, and is a member of the Secretary of Commerce's Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Advisory Committee.
