The August Peace event welcomes the Veterans For Peace Golden Rule Peace Boat -- sailing to BAN NUCLEAR WEAPONS!
This year’s August Peace Event – on July 9th – welcomes the Golden Rule Peace Boat to Sacramento.
In 1958, activists sailed the Golden Rule toward the Marshall Islands in an attempt to stop atmospheric nuclear bomb tests. They weren’t successful then and, later, the boat was damaged. But a group of Veterans For Peace volunteers have brought the boat, and the mission, back to life!
Sunday, July 9, 2017, 2:30-4:30 PM
at The Grand, 1215 J Street, Sacramento.
The Golden Rule Peace Boat is docking at spots along the West Coast – including Sacramento -- to promote a nuclear-free future, to educate about the dangers of radiation to humanity and the environment, and to support peaceful alternatives to war.
Why in July? The United Nations has just convened negotiations for a treaty to ban nuclear weapons. Per Veterans For Peace’s Gerry Condon, “These UN negotiations are energizing the movement for nuclear disarmament, as is public concern about the very real possibility of nuclear war.”
Please join us on July 9th and be part of this confident and optimistic event.
We will not have another event in August this year. Instead, this free event will raise funds to help the Golden Rule on its journey. Donations (tax-deductible) should be made to VFP Golden Rule Project and brought to the event or mailed to PO Box 87, Samoa, CA 95564.
