50 States United for Healthy Air

May 2, 2011 - May 4, 2011
Washington, District of Columbia

PSR is proud to be a co-sponsor of “50 States United for Healthy Air,” a collaborative effort that is bringing health professionals, faith leaders and community activists to Washington to speak out on the need for clean air.

PSR representatives from Washington State, Oregon, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nebraska, Florida, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Maine will be in the nation’s capitol May 2 – 4 to speak with their senators and congresspeople, and to meet with representatives of the White House, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other executive branch offices.

They will be calling for robust implementation of the Clean Air Act, including support for health-protective measures by the EPA to reduce emissions of pollutants such as mercury, lead, particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, and air toxics.

Other cosponsoring organizations of 50 States United are American Nurses Association, National Council of Churches, Earthjustice, and Hip-Hop Caucus.

Besides bringing health professionals to Washington, PSR is playing a leading role in the event.  PSR board member Alan Lockwood, MD FAAN will present a PowerPoint on air pollutant impacts on health, and national staffer Barb Gottlieb is chairing the subcommittee that will provide orientation and training to all event participants.
