The Topic:  Gerald F. Kominski, Ph.D., will discuss the future of health reform and the Medicare and Medicaid programs in the context of the highly polarized political environment that has permeated the debates over these essential safety-net programs. Although political pressure for deficit reduction is driving many of the proposals to restructure or eliminate these programs, the recent election results suggest that the American public does not support fundamental restructuring or dismantling of these programs. This presentation will discuss the most likely options to be considered by Congress for stabilizing these programs.
