Speaker Training: The Humanitarian Case for Abolishing Nuclear Weapons
April 2, 2017
Rancho Palos Verdes, California
Time: 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Location: Mary & Joseph Retreat Center, 5300 Crest Rd
PSR's Security Program is providing a training session for people who would like to become proficient in presenting PSR's humanitarian case for abolishing nuclear weapons. This training will happen after the PSR Chapter Leader's Meeting in Los Angeles, which is scheduled to end at 12:30pm. PSR will prepare you for public speaking to faith groups, in university settings, to Rotary and other civil society groups, and at events of all kinds.
In this four-hour session, trainers--including PSR Security Committee leaders, Drs. Ira Helfand, Bob Dodge, and Peter Wilk, will demonstrate how to give presentations using existing Power Points and videos, and participants (that means YOU) will practice delivering talks in break-out groups. To help build confidence, there will be a special emphasis on answering audience questions. The training will also include strategies for generating opportunities to make presentations.
This year, the United Nations will convene negotiations for a treaty to ban nuclear weapons based on their profound humanitarian impact. Once completed, this treaty will be the most significant nuclear disarmament accomplishment in decades. In the United States, PSR's role is to amplify this achievement and encourage our government to reverse course on its planned trillion dollar investment for a complete rebuild of the entire United States nuclear arsenal.
