When I first joined PSR more than 20 years ago as a medical student at the University of Wisconsin, I was seeking a community-minded approach to balance the attention to individual patients. I was attracted to all that PSR provided. PSR has taught me how to effectively contribute—as a physician—to efforts to diminish the most overt threats to human health—the threats of nuclear arms, climate change and the toxic degradation of our environment.
As a PSR activist, I have had transformative experiences serving both my local chapters—Wisconsin and Washington—and on the PSR National Board; testifying in the state legislature; lobbying on Capitol Hill, and travelling abroad as a physician-diplomat.
