Please tell your Senators that we can no longer delay action if we are to protect our health and the health of future generations from catastrophic climate change.
Global warming poses grave consequences for human health. To protect against severe hurricanes, storms and flooding, intense heat waves, worsening air quality, and the spread of insect-borne and water-borne diseases, we must act quickly and decisively.
Your U.S. senators are now back on Capitol Hill and wll be drafting climate legislation soon. Please urge them to take the following actions:
1. Make strong, early cuts in carbon dioxide emissions.
2. Preserve the EPA's authority to regulate carbon dioxide under the Clean Air Act.
3. End dependence on coal for electrical generation.
4. Prevent unlimited loan guarantees or additional subsidies for new nuclear reactors.
Tell your Senators that to protect public health and the planet, we as a nation must move away from dangerous energy.

Physicians for Social Responsibility has released a groundbreaking medical report, “Coal’s Assault on Human Health,” which takes a new look at the devastating impacts of coal on the human body. Coal combustion releases mercury, particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, and dozens of other substances known to be hazardous to human health. This report looks at the cumulative harm inflicted by those pollutants on three major body organ systems: the respiratory system, the cardiovascular system, and the nervous system. The report also considers coal’s contribution to global warming, and the health implications of global warming. Read more »
