Scrapping the Clean Power Plan costs us lives

November 30, 2017

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt is seeking to eliminate the Clean Power Plan (CPP). The CPP created pathways for states to slash carbon emissions from electricity sectors by almost one-third, greatly advancing the U.S.'s ability to slow climate change.

The CPP was developed based on solid scientific research documenting the serious health consequences of climate change and exposure to dirty air. The proposal was finalized with the input of over 4 million public comments, including comments from PSR members, chapters and staff.

Repealing the CPP will result in preventable deaths and acute illnesses across the U.S. Intense heat, storms, droughts and other climate-related changes are already costing lives and damaging the health of communities across the country. Continued reliance on fossil fuels exposes our communities to dangerous particulate matter, nitrogen oxides and other harmful air pollution.

Our most vulnerable are at greatest risk from the health effects of climate change and air pollution, including children, the poor and the elderly.

Lives are at stake. Urge EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt to preserve the Clean Power Plan.
