Tell Congress you won’t support phony chemicals policy reform -- only real, health-protective reform.

Tell President Obama: Place restrictions on fracking, now!

November 21, 2013

The technique used to extract natural gas from deep underground sites is polluting water supplies and air and is emerging as a potentially fierce driver of climate change.

High-volume, horizontal hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking," pumps a pressurized mixture of water, sand and chemicals -- including known carcinogens -- deep underground to fracture rock formations. Bubbles of gas then flow through the breaks in the rock, to be captured, refined, pressurized and transported by pipes. While some of the fracking fluid is recovered, some remains underground -- and all of it remains toxic.

As if that weren't bad enough, these processes also leak significant amounts of methane, a potent greenhouse gas. In fact, methane has been found to be 86 times more potent than carbon dioxide over a 20-year time frame.

Join us in petitioning President Obama to place health-protective restrictions on fracking operations. Sign the petition now.

Instead of pursuing poisonous power, the future is clear: We must transition to solar energy, wind power, and other clean, safe renewable fuels.
