Tell U.S. EPA to set stronger standards for clean air

August 15, 2012

The U.S. EPA is responsible for regulating highly dangerous air pollutants:  mercury, particulate matter (PM), and hazardous air pollutants.  This month it is seeking citizen comments on its proposed standards for fine particulates.

Stand with PSR and tell the EPA to adopt stronger standards.  This is your opportunity to call on the EPA to strengthen their protection of the air we breathe.

Findings show that setting stronger standards for PM could prevent as many as 35,700 premature deaths in the United States and 2,350 heart attacks, and 23,290 emergency room visits.  Make your voice heard for more health-protective air quality standards.

Particulate matter is emitted into the air by sources like coal-fired power plants, other industrial processing facilities, and diesel trucks.  Exposure to PM contributes to cardiovascular disease, strokes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer; these are four leading causes of death in the U.S.
