66 Years is Enough! Time to Retire Nuclear Weapons.
August 4, 2011
This week we will join with thousands around the nation and the world
to commemorate the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (August 6
& 9). These dangerous and immoral weapons have threatened our health
and security for far too long.
Today, leaders and activists across the world are working to build a world free of nuclear weapons. Archbishop Desmond Tutu wrote recently with the moral vision he commands,
"One standard must apply to all countries: zero. Nuclear
arms are wicked, regardless of who possesses them. The unspeakable human
suffering that they inflict is the same whatever flag they may bear. So
long as these weapons exist, the threat of their use -- either by
accident or through an act of sheer madness -- will remain."
We can't change the world alone, but together we can do great things.
PSR is coordinating with our colleagues to raise a unified voice
saying clearly for all to hear that it is time to retire nuclear weapons
once and for all.
We hope you can attend an event in your community, and follow us on Twitter at PSR Security.
These
events are rare opportunities to meet others in your area who are
interested in this vital issue. Please bring a few friends who have
never been to such an event before.
If you have 5 minutes right now, please use our easy online tool to submit a Letter to The Editor.
These letters bring our message on nuclear disarmament to thousands of
people and help show elected officials that there is wide support for
this cause.
While we have provided sample text, your letter will
be even more effective if you personalize it to make it your own. If you
are a health professional, please identify yourself as such.
I'm "1 More 4 Zero" -- are you?

Nuclear Famine: A Billion People at Risk
The newly generated data on the decline in agricultural production that would follow a limited, regional nuclear war in South Asia support the concern that more than one billion people would be in danger of starvation.
