Let Diplomacy Work with Iran!
July 24, 2014
Nine nations possess nuclear weapons. The world would be even more dangerous with a tenth, and that is why PSR strongly supports the negotiations to curtail Iran's nuclear program. But Democrats and Republicans in Congress are threatening to undermine significant diplomatic progress.
Please contact your US representative and senators, and tell them you support extending the timeline to let diplomacy with Iran work!
Last November, successful negotiations between Iran and delegates from the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany resulted in a temporary freeze in Iran’s nuclear program. Last week, recognizing tangible recent progress toward a deal, diplomats agreed to extend nuclear talks for four months in order to achieve a long-term deal that will severely restrict Iran’s nuclear weapon-making capacity.
However, members of Congress are threatening to derail this excellent progress toward a diplomatic solution. Last week, Republican Senators Cruz and Kirk called upon the Senate to pass the bipartisan Menendez-Kirk Bill, which would impose new sanctions on Iran and likely drive the Iranians away from the negotiating table. On Monday, Democratic Representatives Sherman and Engel also promoted the idea of additional sanctions.
A diplomatic agreement remains our best chance to prevent war and a nuclear-armed Iran. Please help ensure that these negotiations are allowed to continue. Say no to new sanctions on Iran.
