Petition the President

May 29, 2014

In March, the Obama Administration released its budget request for Fiscal Year 2015. Surprisingly, the proposed budget cut vital nuclear nonproliferation programs to control weapons-grade materials: a 27% cut to the Pentagon's Cooperative Threat Reduction program, a 25% cut to the Dept. of Energy's Global Threat Reduction Initiative and a 27% cut to International Materials Protection.

PSR is supporting a “We the People” petition at the White House website--created by the Fissile Materials Working Group--to urge the Obama administration to restore nonproliferation funding. If this petition gets 100,000 signatures, the White House will issue an official response.

Help us get there--add your name!

We completely agree with the President, who said on March 25, 2014:

"We still have a lot more work to do to fulfill the ambitious goals we set four years ago to fully secure all nuclear and radiological material, civilian and military, so that it can no longer pose a risk to any of our citizens. I believe this is essential to the security of the entire world, and given the catastrophic consequences of even a single attack, we cannot be complacent."

Sign the petition now at the White House website.
