Tell Congress: No War With Iran!

September 20, 2012

In recent weeks, we have seen an alarming build-up of rhetoric about the necessity of a military "solution" to prevent Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon. Meir Dagan, the chief of Israel’s Mossad between 2002 and 2010, said in an interview aired by CBS's 60 Minutes in March that bombing Iran would be the "stupidest idea" he'd ever heard because it won’t work. As politicians in the United States use the specter of a nuclear armed Iran to frighten Americans, the threat of war undermines cooler heads in Iran. Counter the hawks in our government by telling your elected officials that war is not an option.

We want Congressional phones to ring non-stop with messages in support of peace and diplomacy with Iran. The inertia for war is difficult to stop once it begins, as our almost 11 year war in Afghanistan bears out. You can help roll back the drumbeat from the media and government by making a call today.

Instead of war-mongering, the peace community is pressing for meaningful cuts in our military budget to help create a federal budget that reflects our priorities. Our work towards that goal would be erased if our Congress becomes convinced that war is the only option with Iran. When you pick up the phone today, you will be joining citizens from a nation-wide coalition of organizations who will be taking the same action as you.
