To President Obama: I Support the Test Ban Treaty
September 28, 2011
On Friday, September 23rd, foreign ministers from 100 countries met
at the UN Headquarters in New York to promote the entry into force of
the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).
In the early 1960s, PSR helped lead a movement against atmospheric
testing that led to the ratification of the Limited Nuclear Test Ban
Treaty in 1963. PSR has now joined a nation-wide coalition of activists
to push this vital issue forward. This common-sense treaty is an essential part of international efforts to stop the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
The
Administration has expressed support for the CTBT. With your help
throughout 2010, the New START agreement was ratified and both countries
have started to dismantle their massive strategic nuclear arsenals. We need your help again.
Now
we have to ramp up efforts to educate our elected officials on the
compelling reasons to ban nuclear weapons testing. Our first step will
be to petition the Administration to take up the ratification of CTBT as
a priority as soon as possible. The White House has just released a new
platform for citizens to voice their concern over issues and, if we can
gather 5,000 signatures, the White House will review the petition and
send us an official response.
Can you sign this petition, share it with friends & family, and help us get to 5,000 signatures?
