You can prevent the next Cuban Missile Crisis!

October 17, 2012

50 years ago this week, the Cuban Missile Crisis brought the world to the brink of a cataclysmic nuclear war. The conflict galvanized many to demand that the U.S. move towards stopping the nuclear arms race, ending nuclear tests, and to make real the vision of a world free of nuclear weapons. Today, you can help ensure that the lessons of this crisis are not forgotten by writing a letter to the editor.

As Americans tune in to the last Presidential debate on foreign policy and as the decisions over our federal budget come into focus, we have an opportunity to move the country towards the consensus that these weapons represent our past and not the future that we want. We must push for meaningful reductions in the nuclear weapons budget that live up to our international commitments and responsibly protect funding for pressing human and environmental needs.

Please write a letter to the editor today using the talking points provided. As more countries have developed nuclear weapons programs since 1962, the chance of another Cuban Missile Crisis occurring has also increased. Be a leader in your community on this important issue by writing a letter to your local paper.
