It’s time to speak out about the climate change crisis.
A recent special report by the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warns that we have just over a decade to slash carbon emissions and keep world temperatures from rising more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels.
Limiting global warming to 1.5°C would require rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society, the IPCC said. It must be done soon: We are already well on the way to the 1.5°C limit, and the warming trend shows no sign of ending.
It’s time for our government to take action! Ask your candidates:
“How are you going to protect us from climate change, and as a part of that, will you [choose one:]
- oppose fracking?
- increase our use of clean, safe, renewable energy?
- help hasten the transition off of fossil fuels?”
To find a candidate forum, check with the League of Women Voters or consult your local newspaper. Then grab some friends, attend the event, and speak out. Time for effective action is running out.
