Calling all PSR members: the moment has arrived to contact your U.S. representative and senators to urge them to exercise their solemn duty to protect our nation’s interests and prevent war with Iran.
The Middle East is already a complicated political tinderbox. Since the United States is a nuclear-armed country, any armed conflict involving U.S. forces carries with it the risk of escalation to nuclear weapons, leading to a humanitarian catastrophe.
According to Bruce Amundson, MD, Chair of Washington PSR Nuclear Weapons Abolition Task Force and a member of PSR’s Committee to Abolish Nuclear Weapons: “Congress offers our only real avenue to prevent military action. It’s critical that PSR members contact their senators and representatives to strongly urge them to sign on to the bills which would prevent unconstitutional military action by the president. Direct contact is essential since members of congress only are responsive to their constituents, and numbers count.”

On May 21, Physicians for Social Responsibility issued an official statement unequivocally opposing “any attempt to escalate conflict or engage in war with Iran. The United States and Iran both have a vested interest in avoiding war.”
“There is a clear, necessary path to preserve peace between our nations, one that has advanced and will continue to advance key progress: both nations must continue to actively engage in dialogue, with open diplomatic communications channels and the mutual aim to prevent any further escalation of conflict,” said Jeff Carter, Executive Director of Physicians for Social Responsibility.
PSR also joined with 61 other leading organizations signing onto a letter to Congress opposing war with Iran. In the letter, the 62 groups call on Congress to “fulfill its constitutional duty and enact further constraints to unequivocally prevent the administration from launching an unauthorized war.”
