Dr. Ira Helfand will be doing a virtual presentation on March 29th at 7 pm.
Dr. Ira Helfand is an expert on nuclear issues, receiving a Noble Peace Prize twice through his two groups.
The topic, “Fighting the Growing Threats of Nuclear War and Climate Collapse”, brings together two dire threats to people and the planet. Dr. Helfand will also talk about the Back from the Brink campaign. A reception will follow.
Dr. Helfand is a leader in two Nobel Prize-winning organizations: the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapon (ICAN) and International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW). He is also co-founder and past president of Physicians for Social Responsibility, IPPNW’s US affiliate.
In 2016 Ira led the United Nations’ session on the humanitarian consequences of nuclear war, resulting in the successful negotiation of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in 2017.
