Transportation is our top source of climate pollution in Washington. Reducing emissions from our transit system is critical to promote climate health. Right now, we have an important opportunity to improve public health and reduce emissions by transitioning to cleaner transportation fuels.
The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency (PSCAA) is currently considering a clean fuel standard for its four-county region. A clean fuel standard sets a limit on the greenhouse gas emissions from transportation fuels, limiting harmful air pollution in the process. California’s clean fuel standard will contribute to over $8 billion in healthcare cost savings by 2025, and Washington is the only West Coast state without a policy on the books.
PSCAA will hold a public hearing on its draft clean fuel standard proposal on December 19th in Seattle.
